HUGO - 30th MARCH
SCREENED AS OUR ANNUAL FUNDRAISER - TICKETS £6.50
Appropriately enough for a film society event, Martin Scorcese’s latest movie is a celebration of film-making. Based on the prize-winning graphic novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret this star studded movie takes us to 1890s Paris where a homeless twelve year old, Hugo, is leading a vagrant existence hiding in the Gare Montparnasse. Here he encounters Georges Méliès, a charismatic showman running a toy stall but soon to become famous as a pioneer of moving pictures. Charming and richly detailed - Not to be missed.
A licensed bar and snacks will be available on the night.
Doors Open 7pm
Film Starts 8pm
2D version - subject to availability of disc - check website again closer to the date in case the release schedule has changed
The Princess of Montpensier - 10th February
Presteigne Twinning Association Fundraiser £7.50
Directed by Bertrand Tavernier and adapted from the novel by Madame de La Fayette, this beautifully filmed historical drama set in the chateaux of seventeenth century France, addresses the issues of passion and honour whilst at the same time looking into the dark heart of social, sexual and ecumenical mores of that age. Strong performances by Lambert Wilson (lately in Of Gods and Men) and Mélanie Thierry as the eponymous heroine, bring this romantic but troubled tale to life.
£7.50 to include a glass of wine and French nibbles - film starts at 8pm.
